Kennebunkport Pecha Kucha and the Wells Reserve at Laudholm are teaming up for a special nature-themed Pecha Kucha Night Thursday, November 14, at Atlantic Hall in Cape Porpoise.

Pecha Kucha Night is the popular series of short, creative presentations by local people and others. Each presentation is limited to just six minutes and forty seconds, so the audience is exposed to many ideas and a broad range of topics in rapid-pace succession. The program consists of 10 passion-projects, but this time they will be diverse, creative takes on nature-related subjects, including the visual arts.

The Pecha Kucha Committee is seeking additional nature-related submissions. Do you write about nature? Take nature photos? Teach children about nature? Sell an all-natural product? Use your imagination. The committee interprets the theme broadly and welcomes diversity within it. Applying is easy.  Just send 3-5 sample images, a brief bio, and short description to pechakucha.kennebunk@gmail.com. The deadline for applying is October 29. For more information, call Linda at 207-967-3804.

Event night doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the program starts at 7:20 p.m. Cost is $5 at the door. Beer and wine will be available for purchase; light snacks provided free of charge.

What is Pecha Kucha?

Launched in 2003 by two Tokyo architects, Pecha Kucha (Japanese for “chit chat”) is a short presentation format that focuses on creativity and the creative process. It was conceived to provide creative professionals and amateur enthusiasts with a place to meet, mingle, and share their work and ideas.

Pecha Kucha Night has become an international sensation, presented in more than 1,000 cities around the world. It’s a must-see “happening” for anyone interested in new ideas and creative thinking, and an inexpensive, fun night out with a group of fascinating people — maybe even your neighbors!
